Proriua Housing
The investigation into Maori culture gave our design some unique elements. The 33-degree rotation of the second floor of our main house was a conscious decision based around the original location of the family's Iwi, Mount Te Runanga O Ngati Porou, East Cape, Northland. Woven elements are seen both on the façade and in the exhibition space to help incorporate the Maori culture into our design, while also relating the design to Grandmas weaving hobby. Considering the roof design of Marae's, we decided to pitch the two separate roofs so that when looked at in elevation, this mimics the design seen on a Marae. The kitchen in the main house was raised to keep the idea of Kai being an important cultural element, therefore ensuring this stays the ''heart'' of the home.
